Issue with Ctrl-& Alt-keys in GNOME 49 OSK

October 12, 20251 min. read

On devices running GNOME in the "desktop" flavor, especially in Version 49 there seem to be an issue with the On-Screen-Keyboard (OSK) when entering key-combinations with the Ctrl- or Alt-keys.

While the OSK can be used to enter normal text, commands like Ctrl+d to exit a shell or Ctrl+x to exit nano do not work. Entering these commands with a hardware-keyboard (if possible) works normally.

We believe this is the same bug as reported in Ubuntu here, which means it is fixed in GNOME 49.1 and will land soon in Alpine. For now this problem does not seem to affect GNOME Mobile.
