Non-adaptive apps hidden in Phosh by default

August 04, 20261 min. read

The Phosh setting that by default hides non-adaptive apps has been restored. That means that apps which do not declare themselves as "adaptive" in their desktop file metadata will no longer be visible by default. A button at the bottom exists to toggle this feature dynamically.

Since 2021, postmarketOS carried an override showing the apps by default. The main rationale was that at the time, many apps that were adaptive or otherwise worked mostly fine, wouldn't mark themselves as such. 5 years later, the mobile ecosystem has grown massively, and matured fastly. By now, any adaptive app not marking itself as such is considered a bug that should be reported and fixed upstream.
